In knowledge representation an entity is a uniquely identifiable thing — a person, organisation, place, work or concept — as opposed to a mere keyword string. Google’s Knowledge Graph (launched 2012) and Wikidata store entities and their relations. Search and answer systems match queries to entities, which is why unambiguous names and identifiers matter.
