Mixing is the audio-engineering process of combining recorded tracks — levels, panorama, equalisation, dynamics — into a stereo or surround image. It is distinct from composing and from mastering, which prepares the mix for distribution. In broadcast and streaming, a controlled mix keeps speech intelligible and loudness within platform standards such as EBU R128.
