A taxonomy is a controlled classification scheme — terms in a hierarchy or faceted set — used to organise knowledge. Libraries use thesauri; CMS platforms use taxonomies for categories and tags. Without one, publishing systems cannot scale search, related content or entity mapping in a stable way.
