# AEO tracking: metrics, tools and limits

German title: AEO-Tracking: Metriken, Tools und Grenzen

> Measurable are AI Overviews and AI Mode traffic in the Search Console Performance report, visits by documented bots in the server log, and samples of fixed prompt sets (share of model). HubSpot offers an AEO tool (beta) for 25 prompts. An industry standard, target values and the effect of measures are not verified.

Manfred Sulzmann: “What you do not measure, you cannot defend. AEO without KPIs is hope, not a system.”

## Facts

- **Google:** Performance report, “Web” search type
- **Bots:** User agents documented by providers
- **Share of model:** Sample on a fixed prompt set
- **Standard tool:** not verified

## Measurement points

Measurement points and evidenceMeasurement point Source Statement
AI Overviews / AI Mode Search Console, Performance report, search type “Web” documented by Google; no separate breakdown stated
Bot visits Server log: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot Names documented by the providers
Prompt samples manual or via tool Sample, see below

## Share of model as a sampling measure

Share of model (SoM) is defined here as the share of answers to a fixed prompt set in which a brand is named. It is a sample, not a measurement of total usage. Procedure (recommendation):

- Define and version a prompt set.
- Record system, date and settings per run (logged in, with web search, language).
- Evaluate answers: named, recommended, named negatively, not named.
- Repeat the same measurement regularly and report fluctuations.

Answers can differ between runs; a single run says little. The origin of the term, the number of prompts and the measurement rhythm are not verified.

## Example tool: HubSpot AEO

According to the product page (beta, as of 24 Oct 2026) the tool tracks visibility and sentiment for ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, 25 prompts free, then USD 50 per month (45 when paid annually). This is a vendor statement, not an assessment.

## Questions

### Is there a standard tool?

An industry standard is not verified. Vendors such as HubSpot offer their own solutions.

### How large must the prompt set be?

There is no verified value.

### Does every mention count?

No. Named, recommended and named negatively should be evaluated separately.

### How often should I measure?

That is a project decision; a consistent procedure is what matters.
