# FAQ structure: value and status of FAQ markup

German title: FAQ-Struktur: Nutzen und Status von FAQ-Markup

> FAQ blocks help readers when they answer real questions briefly. FAQPage markup no longer acts as a rich result in Google Search: in August 2023 Google restricted FAQ rich results to well-known government and health sites and, according to a documentation note dated 8 May 2026, has discontinued them.

Manfred Sulzmann: “A good FAQ answers the question users actually ask—not the one you wish they would ask.”

## Facts

- **Google status:** FAQ rich results discontinued (note 8 May 2026)
- **Since August 2023:** government and health sites only
- **Markup:** must match visible content

## Status of FAQPage at Google

- August 2023: HowTo rich results removed; FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health sites (source: Google blog, read here through a secondary source).
- 8 May 2026: note in Google's documentation that FAQ rich results are discontinued.
- According to Google in 2023, existing FAQ markup did not have to be removed.

## Structure for readers

Editorial recommendation of this website: real user questions as the heading, the answer in two to four sentences, with a source where a factual claim is made. Questions ideally come from support requests and search queries, not from guesses.

## Markup

Google requires structured data to match visible content. If FAQPage JSON-LD is output, it must mirror the visible questions and answers. An effect on rich results is not to be expected.

## Not verified

The 2023 Google blog post was not readable in this check; the 2023 details rely on a secondary source. The note of 8 May 2026 was read in Google's documentation; according to Google the documentation page was removed on 15 June 2026 and can no longer be linked.

## Questions

### Is FAQPage markup still worthwhile?

Not for Google rich results. As part of a well-structured document it does no harm if it mirrors visible content; a benefit for AI answers is not verified.

### How many FAQs per page?

There is no verified value. As many as there are real questions.

### Do FAQ pages appear more often in AI answers?

That is not verified.
